The country’s first IGLTA member, since 2014, it was also honored as the first city in Mexico to be granted Gay Travel Approved status by. Puerto Vallarta is renowned as the premier LGBT vacation destination in Mexico. Zona Romantica is Puerto Vallarta’s gay district – filled with dance clubs, more than 20 gay and friendly bars, saunas, gay boat tours, cabarets, a gay beach, a gay bar hopping tour, and a thriving arts and culture scene. The only other time Puerto Vallarta has made the gay travel awards list was in 2017 when Zona Romantica made the top gayborhood. In 2017 New York City was named the top pride festival, and in 2016 Madrid, Spain, won top pride festival honors. The annual seven-day pride festival, organized by the local LGBT business association ACT LGBT A.C., is held in May each year. Visitors to the blog voted for their “favorite” in each category.
